CALL FOR PAPERS

FIREFORUM CONGRESS “FIRE & SUSTAINABILITY”

New trends in construction, new fire prevention techniques and new intervention procedures

18 & 19 OCTOBER 2012

BRUSSELS

About the organiser
Fireforum is a non-profit organisation that was set up in 2009 by the fire brigade and industry to promote and enhance the efficiency of fire safety measures in the safety chain. Fireforum’s aim in holding this congress is to spread knowledge and information about such measures.

In this connection, on 18 and 19 October 2012, Fireforum is organising its second scientific congress, and this is its call for papers.

For more information on Fireforum, see the website www.fireforum.be.

Theme of the conference: Fire & Sustainability
The quest for sustainability provides us with an opportunity we ought to seize to protect buildings and infrastructure against fire. New building materials and building products, changing trends in construction, fresh insights into the management of installations and alternative intervention techniques all offer possibilities.

Papers that focus on the following issues may be submitted:

  • What does sustainability mean in the context of buildings and in relation to fire safety?
  • Fire safety and trends in new construction and renovation: highly insulated buildings, timber-frame buildings, steel-frame buildings, airtight buildings, renewable energy, etc.
  • Sustainable fire safety techniques, products and systems.
  • New strategies, procedures and equipment for intervention. What does sustainability mean when tackling a fire? Better advance planning, standardisation of operational procedures, the collection of extinguishing water, the choice of extinguishing agent, etc.?

Papers may cover subjects including fire protection techniques, rules and regulations, scientific and technological research and practical examples. Commercial papers will not be accepted.

Target groups:
This congress isaimed at any parties active in the domain of fire safety, including governments, fire brigades, insurers, fire prevention advisors, manufacturers and fitters, scientists, policymakers, architects, designers, facility managers, security managers, crisis managers, contractors, business leaders and the press.
